Case Study

In-situ Development, Northern Alberta

An international resource development company acquired a potential in situ oil sands lease in the Athabasca region of Alberta. The property required further resource delineation and had a potential aquifer that needed to be assessed for suitability as an operational water source.

Norwest was engaged and carried out all aspects of project planning, execution and management. Norwest built a multidisciplinary project team consisting of drilling, geological, geotechnical and hydrogeological specialists who designed and executed the project safely, on time and within 3% of the approved budget. The data collected was used to further define the project’s geologic and hydrogeologic resources, which has allowed our client to proceed with planning and permitting of their future SAGD project.
